Basingstoke

Get a little bit of everything from Basingstoke: town and countryside, business and leisure. It is true; you cannot quite pin down Basingstoke as it is the perfect blend between a bustling, modern urban area as well as a charming, traditional English town. One thing that can be said with certainty is that even though Basingstoke is a town, it is one that is in rapid ascent as reflected by it being the third fastest growing town in the UK: making it an enticing travel option.

Due to the proximity of London to Basingstoke, it is no surprise that Basingstoke is becoming quite the business hotspot. With over six thousand businesses encompassing a whole range of sectors and the presence of business giants such as Sony and Barclays among the generous supply of independent small businesses, it is clear that Basingstoke is an upcoming business travel destination particularly with its strong national and international communication links.

However, if leisure is your motive for visiting this prosperous town, then if Basingstoke is famous for anything it is Jane Austen. From the striking tudor family residence, The  Vyne, where she partook in a few dances and the church where she was baptised, there is many a stunning location which help to give avid Austen fans a chance to walk in her footsteps and to see the sights which may have inspired her to write her novels. Another must-see for literary fanatics is the renowned beauty spot, Watership Down, which due to the magnificent views it afforded, also provided inspiration for another renowned novel, Richard Adams’ “Watership Down”.

With every traditional English town, a wealth of history can be found and it is no different with Basingstoke. The Top of the Town is the historic town centre of Basingstoke where amongst all the local restaurants and cafes, The Willis Museum can be found which charters the town’s diverse history. Other prime historical sites which require a visit include The Holy Ghost Cemetary as well as the Silchester Roman Amphitheatre and Walls-a Roman town whose walls you can still take a gander around.

As already mentioned, Basingstoke contains the perfect balance of ingredients that are essential for a successful vacation. Basingstoke has the history covered, and it also has the fun. Thanks to its intense Leisure Park, everything from a ravenous appetite to an adrenaline thirst can be catered for due to its three-pool Aquadome, Bowlplex, indoor skydiving and interactive museum. A week alone could be spent in the Leisure Park!

In correlation with its rise as a prosperous, thriving town, Basingstoke is seeing a similar rise in its popularity as a destination and we encourage you to come and see why-do not worry about accommodation, we can handle that.
